Modathon follows 3 epic build teams as they take a stock 1979 Ford Bronco and turn it into an absolute trail beast (all with eBay Motors parts of course). For this series I worked with the design team at The Many to create an art direction that combined 3D maps, 2D type animation and eBay shopping UI design with grit, grain, and texture. With over 6 million views on YouTube so far, the series has been a huge success and has launched eBay Motors’ YouTube channel as a major player in the DIY car content space.
Part of the graphics ask was to design 3D topographic maps that showed the journey of the Bronco. I was able to pull accurate heightmap data from Tangram Heightmapper to create displacement maps that replicated the exact terrain in Cinema 4D.
The result is a cohesive, branded series that is fully realized through the graphic language and animation - a ripping, grinding, hold-on-for-dear-life series that pushed our creators and their truck to the limit.
